21 July 2022 - Environmental grant awarded by Keynsham Town Council to Keynsham Repair Cafe.
Keynsham Town Council today awarded the Keynsham Repair Cafe with a £600 environmental grant, specifically towards room hire.
Speaking after the award presentation, co-organiser Gwen said, "This grant will ensure that our volunteers can continue to share their skills and time, and help people in our community to repair and fix their stuff for free. With the combined cost of living and environmental crises really starting to impact families now, it is more important than ever that as a community we can help each other to fix and continue to use the things we already own."
"By repairing what has already been purchased, we not only reduce what goes to landfill, but we also save money, and reduce the need for more stuff to be made - it is estimated that just one repair can save 24kg of CO2."
"Locally, we have just experienced two very hot days, with temperatures well into 35 degrees. We will look back on this time and consider it cool. It's now very clear that as individuals we must all do a lot, lot more than we are doing today - no-one else is going to rescue us, tell us what to do, or change this situation. Big climate changes are locked in - if we want to minimise that change, we must change our ways."
Buy less, choose well, make it last.
"On behalf of the volunteer team, thank you to Town Council for providing this funding, our first since we launched in September 2019. Join us, let's fix this!"
